Sartorial Compass: Maggie Gyllenhaal, What Remains

The last few dresses that signify to me why Maggie Gyllenhaal is and will always be a Sartorial Compass, are the ones below.  Color, texture and simple silhouettes. 

 No basic black lace to be found.

 The angular shapes on this dress are so perfect.  

 I love when people wear Prada on big red carpets, this dress was way ahead of the ombre trend, and is such a beautiful fit.  Not your average Oscar dress, as per usual.

In YSL at the Metropolitan Opera.  Simply perfect. 

If Maggie Gyllenhaal has taught you anything this month I hope that it's a fearlessness of print and pattern, and the audacity to wear whatever you are comfortable in regardless of  trends and critics.

Sartorial Compass: Maggie Gyllenhaal, Print Perfection

Maggie G is obviously a fan of print, take her red carpet gowns from here and here, but in today's post you'll see how she wears print in everyday outfits.  

Black blazer, she loves this classic topper.

Dries for days, he's the King of pattern and she is his queen.

On the left she's wearing Proenza Schouler, I love that it probably felt like pajama's to wear but looks really gorgeous at the same time.  I'm all about pajama fashion.  The fur in the center is a favorite look, simple, but  it makes a statement.

I absolutely love that she is fearless about prints, and hope that it never changes.  Just like all of the women I have chosen as Sartorial Compass' she knows what she likes and whether the public likes it or not, she is sticking to her look.  Because seriously, what is the purpose of fashion and style if you yourself don't love what you put on?

Sartorial Compass: Maggie Gylenhaal, Black + Blue

Maggie is a fearless advocate of prints one day and a lover of minimalist design in deep hues another. She has truly stolen my heart all over again during my search for these photos.

Any smart girl loves a pop of red.

I love this smoky blue, and when you look closely you see a very faint pattern in the fabric.  

Two printed gowns during one awards season?  I like how this lady thinks.

Navy + Black = Perfection.

I may be the only person in the world that liked this dress on her at the Met Gala in 2010, but I can't help loving everything about it.  The dress is from one of the best Louis Vuitton collections in my recent memory, and I love the understated pattern and the heavy black straps.

Sartorial Compass: Maggie Gyllenhaal, Lanvin Lover

If I wasn't entirely certain of my adoration for Maggie Gyllenhaal, she absolutely stole my heart at the 2009 Golden Globes.  She chose to step out sporting a floor length, one shoulder, purple and turquoise leopard print Lanvin gown.  That was it, I was sold.  The laid back draping, and flawless construction suit her, and I don't see her giving up on Lanvin anytime soon, thank goodness.

 The. Best. Ever.

I love how she dressed this down with sandals, it looks so comfortable yet pulled together.

Too bad this isn't a full body shot of her in this adorable one shouldered jump suit!!

Yes, this is sartorial compass, yes this is Tuesday, not Sunday, I will do better next week.  For now you may spend your time dreaming of how Maggie Gyllenhaal will wear Lanvin once again!
