Invincible

It's that magical time of year once again, fashion's most recognized, most touted, and most insane stop in NY before moving on to London, Milan and Paris to see what's going to go down next season.  Every year at this time, when the weather is cooling off just slightly and the possibilities feel endless, I dive into my Street Style board and get inspired.  I kind of felt invincible in this outfit.

My Instagram Life: Birthday Month!

February is my birthday month and one of the best months of the year in my opinion.  So many great things happen, The Superbowl, Fashion Week, The Grammy's, Valentine's Day (someday this will be great...), my birthday and the Oscars.  Then there are all the other great things that happen in between...

Superbowl Sunday meant tasty treats for all! Brie, mini pizzas and blueberry crisp were consumed in mass quantities.

I've discovered my new favorite Thursday night activity...BINGO.

Fashion week!

Office bonding means we all get to wear a crown of pink roses...

The greatest thing of all was "Nemo" the "blizzard."  6 inches of snow brings out the kid in everybody.

Valentine's are the best.

Pre-birthday weekends at cabins, also the best.

Birthday dessert for the big 2-5 and birthday "treats" in jewelry form.

I'm so grateful to have had such a wonderful birthday month, thanks to all who helped me celebrate!  Cheers to March and all that it brings (hopefully spring!).

Varsity

Cool nights, and crisp mornings are the best perks of fall, the leather jackets are right up there too.  And there was never anything better than the first couple of months of a school year, football games, new clothes, and best friends.  And as you can see, I could NOT resist this Madewell jacket and it makes me feel like heading straight to the nearest football game.  

Prepping For a Party

The last couple of days have been a whirlwind, and the next two promise to be as well.

In the midst of my brother's upcoming nuptials, I had a routine dentist appointment that soon turned in to adding an extra appointment to fix a filling.  AWESOME.  I've spent a blissful 6+ hours on the beach, and have otherwise been running around like a crazy person helping to prepare for the upcoming events.  I fell in love with the decor of the rehearsal dinner space {an art gallery & children's art academy} and couldn't help but to snap the above photo.  I'm wearing an American Apparel top, Old Navy men's jeans as cutoffs, and a Stella & Dot necklace.

RADically Different

Sometimes I think our own personal style is somewhat of a stretch from what we actually believe it is, or want it to be.  I have this navy silk midi-skirt from J.Crew that I struggled to wear this winter, but I have have been loving it all spring and summer.  See my two totally different outfits for yourself and tell me which you love more!

I wore this just over a week ago to work, a quite "romantic" look with the cream colored crochet top paired up with the navy skirt.  I liked the outfit, and received a lot of compliments, but something about it felt too pretty...

Last weekend I wore this outfit to the Met, where I finally got to check out the Impossible Conversations exhibit {post with illegally taken photos to come...}.  A total departure from the romantic hippie look I had going on with the previous outfit, but I LOVED this.  I felt so comfortable {aside from the scorching heat} and felt like I had totally accomplished making the simple skirt fun and cool.

Obviously one outfit was work appropriate, the other not so much, but what are your thoughts? Which is your favorite?

First Week Wardrobe

So if you haven't caught on quite yet, I moved to New York this week.  I currently reside in Brooklyn and thus far the experience has proven to be wonderful.  Today I'll give you a look at my two favorite outfits from my first week of work.

Day 1: I wanted to make sure that I was dressed up enough, but also somewhat casual.  Not all of my clothes or shoes had quite made it to NY yet...so I needed to make due with what I had.  Piece 1) Madewell skirt - Christmas present and Piece[s] 2) J. Crew Miller Motorcycle Boots, I haven't yet determined how best to wear a midi-skirt in the winter with tights without making it all look too heavy so I opted for the skirt-over-boot option.  From there I added a black Gap t-and J.Crew wool band jacket.  Necklaces are from Stella + Dot and J.Crew.

Day 4: Last Thursday I was feeling the urge to go 90's...  American Apparel skirt, J.Crew chambray shirt, H&M sweater and a Stella & Dot necklace.  I finished the look off with my faux Frye's from Target (not photographed).  Not sure if it was the time of day, or the fact that I don't have as nice of a backdrop here or what...but I NEED a new camera...  I totally used effects to disguise the poor quality of the images...

What I Wore & What I'll Wear

So I had an outfit issue on Sunday while getting ready for our family Christmas party when the perfect outfit I had envisioned in my head, but hadn't tried on until 10 minutes before we needed to leave, was a gigantic failure.  This is what I came up with just in the nick of time...monochromatic, not too Holiday but the green is the right idea, and of course some sparkle.  I guess I could have taken my own advice and worn this outfit...

I've vowed to do it differently on Christmas Eve.  It's perfect for this unusually warm December that we're having, and I think I'll add some color to make it a bit more festive.  Our church is typically very casual, but for Christmas Eve I always try to get dressed up.

I've been waiting to wear this dress since I scored it for $20 when the Cynthia Rowley sample sale rolled into Chicago.  Though I didn't get to try it on until about a month ago, because of the silk fabric the neck opening had no give and was way too tight to even try getting around my head (which is abnormally large mind you).  So I enlisted my mom to cut open one side and add the hooks and eyes, making it not only wearable but even more unique than it was in the first place.  The fur collar is a gift from my wonderful Grandma, and I can't wait to wear it!

More important than clothes though during this season is family!  My family and I are holing up for the rest of the Holiday season watching movie after movie, and throwing in a few games of Skip-Bo.  Last night we watched The Debt with Helen Mirren, it was phenomenal and I highly recommend it!
