Straying from a typical post, today I'll wish you a happy Friday with a little help from my friends Drake & Rihanna.  Whether you love the song {I can't stop listening} or not, this video is breathtaking.

Alumni in Italy

Sartorial Compass Alumni Rihanna popped up for some vacay in Portofino, Italy this week and I think that she needs to be recognized for her knockout looks.  Her YSL jumpsuit was a nod to summer's bright white trend.  She rocked the look for an al fresco lunch and afternoon ice cream snack, and later got her shine on for a night out in a Lanvin resort dress. 

She's said goodbye to her crimson locks for the time being, but made up for it with her red lips!  Check her ouuut...

And FYI luckily Irene has spared the S.C. coast and the highest winds we're expecting are only 35 mph...but please if you live the East Coast be safe!!  It's looking like the next couple of days might be a little bit terrifying, good luck!

The September Issues

The dreaded/beloved/massive issues are upon us...so I thought I would post a few of my favorites of the September Issue covers (and some of my...not so favorites).

THE GREAT:

Liu Wen, Fei Fei Sun, Du Juan, Shu Pei, Ming Xi, Sui He for VOGUE China - Love all of the beautiful Chinese models and the rich colors from the Gucci fall collection!

Kirsten Dunst for Elle UK - I appreciate that they did a little something extra with the styling on the cover, and it's just so beautiful!

W Magazine - One of only two celebs in the GREAT bunch, I love it for the fact that Kristen is nearly unrecognizable, and I give W mad props for that!

Katie Fogarty for Vogue Australia - Love the strong, yet simple photo, and minimal words (must be the subscriber cover).

Jessica Stam for Flare (Canada) - When I saved this to my docs it said it all with: "Stam."

THE GOOD:

Emma Stone for Teen Vogue - She looks adorable, so adorable...

Beyonce for Harper's Bazaar UK - Pretty cool cover, love the hair and makeup.

Kate Moss for Vogue US - The dress is pretty cool and there are photos inside from her wedding so...

 THE LAME:

Rihanna for Glamour - I love a Rihanna cover, but this is just awkward.

Jessica Alba for Lucky Magazine - Ehhh I feel as though I've seen this photo of Jessica a thousand times.

Lea Michele for Harper's Bazaar US - They seriously had to put her on the September cover...come on!!

I'm clearly opinionated about the September Issues.  It's just that a mediocre cover in January is acceptable (they're small and nobody buys them), but for the issue that sets the tone for the next 12 months, the highest selling issue of the year, the one that aligns with the autumn NYFW shows.  Editors need to put more of an effort forth to make it the most memorable cover of the year.

Sartorial Compass: Rihanna

Today's Sartorial Compass is one day late, but I couldn't resist posting this anyways.  I took a little blogging break for a sweet wedding ceremony in which I got to travel back to Michigan to attend.  I spent an awesome long weekend with some of my best friends, and my family!  A post featuring some photos of dreamy (and pure) West Michigan to come!

So let's get down to business...Sartorial Compass features a bit of an edge today, a far cry from the SUPER classy Diane Kruger last week.  Today I want to highlight Rihanna's fab and fearless dressing.  (Diane and Rihanna do happen to own the same roaring panther bathing suit, so maybe they're not so different after all...)  Rihanna has gone through some MAJAH style evolutions, but I think her latest looks are the greatest because let's get real, there's nothing cooler than a girl who can rock the edgiest all black running around in massive white tulle concoction, and crazy orange pants, but she can pull it off.  My favorite Riri looks are documented below....

I love how daring she is with color, the colorblocked pants and top above is one of my favorites and the blue Zac Posen dress below was one of her first home runs!
