Sartorial Compass: Drew Barrymore, Grey Gardens

I have always been a fan of Drew Barrymore (at least ever since Fever Pitch), but I re-fell in love with her when I saw Grey Gardens, the HBO movie about Jackie Kennedy's Aunt and Cousin, Big Edie & Little Edie.  If you haven't seen the film yet I highly recommend it.  It tells the story of their once glamorous life that due to paranoia of the outside world, became one of seclusion and squalor.  Pictured below are Drew and Jessica Lange in character.

During her promotional duties and award show appearances Drew got in touch with her retro glamour side and absolutely stunned on red carpets.

In Alberta Ferretti for a New York premiere.
Andrew Gn for Los Angeles, such a great 60's vibe on this look.

She was nominated for an Emmy, and won the Golden Globe and SAG awards for Grey Gardens and absolutely stunned on the red carpets.

Monique Lhullier at the Emmy's above, and Monique earlier that year at the SAG's below.

In line with tradition she presented the Golden Globe the following year, this dress was far from being well received by critics, but I thought the details were beautiful and unique.

It seems that Drew took a cue from her character, and dared to be different.  The Holiday's are the perfect time for that, so don't be afraid to take a risk and get a little bit glamorous this year.
