Let's Talk Street Style: NYFW, Spring 2014

While the editors have already moved on from the crazy streets of NYC with their eyes on London, I'm here reveling in the street style from last week.  I love that it's always such a mixed bag, classic colors and shapes juxtaposed with intricate prints and sweatshirts.  I think my favorite look of the week has to be from Yasmine Sewell below, the sheer paneling and mixed b&w prints is near perfection.  Scroll to see my picks for the best street style stars from this NYC season.

Welcoming The Chaos

Yesterday, with only four days to spare before it closes, I made my way uptown to see the Costume Institute's Punk: Chaos to Couture exhibit.  I wasn't expecting to be struck in quite the way that I was, but the punk movement was just so shocking in its time, both in attitude and style, and then to see how it's inspired fashion throughout the next 30 years was amazing to see.  It seems in some way magical, yet so simple, that a designer now can look at something that happened so many years ago, and find just enough inspiration to take it, make it their own, and create something entirely modern.

 "Punk's legacy lies in its questioning of traditional representations of beauty and fashion."

I was most looking forward to seeing these Dolce & Gabanna dresses in person, they are stunning on a whole different level, and so intricate.  

"Effectively, punk democratized creativity and invention.  It broke all the rules and allowed anything to be possible." 

So this now begs the question, can anything like punk ever happen again?

My Instagram Life: Summer!

June kicked this summer off in perfect style, and I'm sharing what my iPhone lens saw throughout the month.  Starting off the month right, I spent a morning at CFDA HQ celebrating their partnership with Swarovski, and re-watching the CFDA Awards webcast.  Later in the week I indulged in Krispy Kreme donuts with some friends in celebration of National Donut Day.  

Once upon a time... I wore a denim jacket over my denim vest.  Something tells me that won't be the last time.  Then it was off to Texas for an amazing weekend with Brinton & Allie.

The State Capitol is a beaut {I know you've seen her before, but I couldn't help myself}.  The wedding flowers were so perfect.  So. Perfect. 

Saying goodbye to the Lone Star State was tough, but it won't be the last time.  Plus, leaving Texas meant that I got to come back and enjoy a perfect moment in Prospect Park at Tropfest, and accompanied the supermoon.   

My new Rachel Comey shoes are a cosmic wonder, I cannot wait to wear them all over the boroughs this summer. 

I'm going back to Michigan to frolic on the beach, cuddle cute puppies, and hang with my friends & family this week, and I can't wait to see what else this summer holds!

My Instagram Life: May Days

May was the perfect spring month, and as always, I enjoyed documenting my days on Instagram.  I had the most amazing weekend with my Mom, Grandma & sister-in-law visiting, we went to the 9/11 memorial, spent an afternoon in Central Park, and a day wandering the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens.  The rest of the month included amazing meals shared with friends, my first trip to the Plaza hotel, some perfect moments in nature, the time I got 5 inches of hair chopped off, and the booking of my very first Texas trip. 

I sort of love you, New York. 

Art In The Park

 After a day of wandering the city with my Mom, Grandma & sister-in-law, we ended up at Madison Square Park before an amazing dinner at Eataly, and discovered the Orly Genger RED, YELLOW AND BLUE installation.  The installation is made of 1,400,000 feet of rope, is covered in over 3,500 gallons of paint and weighs over 100,000 pounds.  It's feels completely natural within the park and if you're in town you should definitely take a look.  In October it will move to Boston and be completely re-imagined and re-shaped at a sculpture garden.  

I couldn't stop myself from adding a few flowers in here. So beautiful. 

Let's Talk Street Style: NYFW, Fall 2013

The NYFW Fall 2013 season has come to a close.  Getting out to more shows and presentations was fun and work was just as crazy making for a long, but super fun week.  The street style in NYC was, as always, in great form.  This is a long one kids, so click through and hang on to your hats!

Karen & Kaelen

 I got a last minute invitation passed on to me for the Karen Walker presentation earlier this week and I wasn't going to miss it.  On a depressing rainy day, Karen Walker showed what happens when the school girl and working girl meet for fall with rose colored overcoats, military khaki and tweed in an array of tones and pops of tangerine.  

The Men of Timo Weiland, Fall 2013

Thanks to a scheduling conflict on the part of my friend, I was able to masquerade as her and peep Timo Weiland's men's collection on Thursday.  I'd already heard great things about his women's collection that debuted earlier in the day, so I was definitely looking forward to it.  

Rachel Comey, Fall 2013

A wonderful friend {& fashion week fairy godmother} flew in from Chicago for 24 hours and Rachel Comey was #1 on her list.  I was lucky enough to tag along for a first look at the sick new Fall 2013 collection! 

My Instagram Life: January

January was fun, cold and busy...

En route to the airport, I captured the city lights and the speed of New York all in one shot.

I traveled back to Michigan to celebrate the life of my Grandpa with my entire family. I love this picture of my Grandparents, they look so smitten with one another.

I get excited every time I have to change terminals in Detroit because I know that this is waiting for me!

I trekked to Philadelphia with a friend for the day for some furniture thrift shopping. We got to see some of the city, and I walked away with a massive gold framed mirror for $20.  Dinner was delicious at The Dandelion with THIS awesome girl.

Spending hours at the Guggenheim was an MLK day well spent.  

A couple of friends hosted my roommate and I for homemade thai food, so delish!

Last weekend a college friend came to town, and drinks were had.  Margaritas at Barrio Chino are NOT to be missed!

A friends birthday called for some pie, and I answered... Luckily there was filling for my roomie and I to enjoy mini-pies!  I used this recipe, and no lie, it is heavenly.
