Design & Domino

It's a somewhat gloomy, yet warm Saturday morning, and all I can think about is the millions of ways I could spruce up my apartment, my room especially.  All I want are a few gallons of paint, and a few DIY supplies and I'll be good to go.  In the meantime, I'm pining for this place.

The quirky accents and accessories that pop with color make the mass amounts of wood seem less overbearing.

The kitchen island is a magical thing.

Also, if you're a New Yorker, or someone that lives in a very tiny cozy place, you MUST pick up Domino Mag's Small Spaces Issue.  It's packed with good ideas {like using cinder blocks as bed risers}.

Wide Open Spaces

I haven't posted about home stuff in a while, but on this spring day {it's a magical 55ยบ and sunny here in NY} I was so blown away by the openness of this space and the use of so many bright colors.  The home, once a studio and school, was designed by Steven Scarloff but is now the home to Kate & Andy Spade which completely makes sense with the ample use of color throughout, I love the bright, airy nature of the space so much.
So many floral patterns yet somehow they fit together seamlessly.

What a magical space.

I love the change to the darker contrasting woodwork throughout different areas in the home.

This bathroom is bananas.  So good.

The Dark & Light Of It

As evidenced by past posts, it's no secret that I have an affinity for two totally different types of decor styles, dark & cozy, or stark white all over.  This masterfully designed Paris apartment by Sarah Lavoine combines the two styles so effortlessly, I couldn't help but fall in love.

The dark details in the bedroom make this so interesting and cool.
The wood floors are stunning, you can tell they've been around for a while, but they're still so perfect.

Black floors in the kitchen are perfect paired with this emerald green table.
Painting the door and entry frames black give the rooms just that extra little bit of edge.  Can you imagine calling this place home, with that view from the office and Paris at your fingertips?

Step Up

I feel like decorative staircases are a relatively new concept, and in my small scope of mind, are only a big deal because of Pinterest.  Thank you, Pinterest.  Well thought out stair design is how any old interior designer can really step up their game.
Opening Ceremony does it best in their NYC location.
The colors jump out so perfectly in both of these photos because of the stark white backdrop.

 LOVE these stripes.

Ombre stairs are so whimsical and pretty.
Let's throw in some natural looking stairs for good measure.  These are fantastic.

Are you down to go a little crazy with your staircase?  It is definitely one of those accessorizing your space types of projects, where the tiniest attention to detail makes all the difference.

Dark & Cozy

My love for dark walls has been fostered entirely by the ladies at Desire to Inspire.  Even this home, with some very modern furnishings, it looks so inviting and cozy because of the wall color.  All of the different shades of grey give it such dimension, and the perfect way to brighten up this room, the mustard couch.

 White painted brick fireplace.

Love this.

All White Everything

Throughout the summer as my life got extremely hectic, I put the weekly feature "Sartorial Compass" on hold.  Once it came down to it I just realized that I had become less and less interested in celebrity style than I once was and therefore decided to scrap it as a weekly feature.  Obviously there are celebs out there that continue to blow my mind, and I promise to feature them every once in a while, but for now I'll keep it on hold.

With that said, I absolutely love interior design and although my current apartment is still in progress I can't help but be inspired by design photos daily.  Going along with that, I love nothing more than spending time on a cozy Saturday morning in my apartment browsing any number of interior design and fashion blogs, so I thought it would only make sense to dedicate my weekend posts, going forward, to lovely and inspiring interiors.  Enjoy today's offering, a selection of all {or mostly all} white interiors that make me want to scrap my love of bright colors, patterns and more...

This apartment is an absolute dream, it would be a pleasure to just spend one Saturday morning here, cup of coffee in hand of course.

I love how the use of primarily one color can inspire the mixture of styles and textures.

Perfect blend of victorian and modern.
