My Instagram Life: Autumn

This fall season has been nearly perfect, my parents visited, crisp autumn air has been in full effect, and my roommate and I have had a temporary addition to our household.  

Wall art has finally been hung, and our place is beginning to feel like home.  

The gorgeous Manhattan Bridge.

My parents and I trekked up to the Bronx to see the Detroit Tigers take the Yankees down in game two of the ALCS.

A blissful fall afternoon spent at Prospect park. 

Absentee ballot came, and this morning, I sent it back out!  Proud to be a voter.

 Halloween weekend gave me an opportunity to live out my 90's sitcom fantasies and be Blossom for a day.

Axl was our faithful companion during Hurricane Sandy.  

 The perfect fall has been tarnished by one of the most devastating natural disasters on the East Coast in years, and things won't be normal for a long time because of it.  I'm so incredibly grateful to come out of this unscathed and hope to get to work this weekend and help the city get back to normal.

Last night I took a jog up to the Manhattan Bridge to see what I could, fittingly, 1 World Trade Center was a shining beacon of hope in the midst of a dark downtown.

Varsity

Cool nights, and crisp mornings are the best perks of fall, the leather jackets are right up there too.  And there was never anything better than the first couple of months of a school year, football games, new clothes, and best friends.  And as you can see, I could NOT resist this Madewell jacket and it makes me feel like heading straight to the nearest football game.

... of jackets.  Skirting the line between bomber and varsity jacket, partnered with the perfect touch of leather, Madewell has managed to make my ideal fall piece.  I don't think I'll be wearing anything else all autumn.

Fall Favorites

I adore autumn for plenty of reasons so I want to share with you a few of my favorite things about fall.  Everybody has their favorite fall treats, these are mine...

Okayyy so I'm making apple crisp on Friday and I cannot wait, I'm making a recipe that includes blueberries too, so I'm pretty sure it's going to be wonderful!  The middle photo is a fig bruschetta with goat cheese, last year I discovered the magic of figs while working at Floriole Bakery in Chicago.  And lastly (going against everything I believe in) the Salted Caramel Mocha from Starbucks...SO SO DELICIOUS.

These are a few other things that get me excited about autumn...

First and foremost, the COLORS!  So excited about the greens, yellows, tans, reds, and oranges!  The dress is from the Valentino F/W 2011, love the color combo and the long sheer sleeves, the other runway image is from Chloe F/W 2011 with some great high waist denim and that beautiful gold blouse.  I cannot wait to wear leather jackets like the one above from J.Crew!  The booties are from Aldo I'm pretty sure they'd be a great addition to my fall wardrobe!  Lastly, I cherish autumn for the new nail polish colors!!  The one in the photo is A-Taupe the Space Needle and I can't wait to get my hands on it...or it on my hands?

When I moved to Charleston this summer I had to massively edit down my clothing, bedroom furniture (right now I'm looking at a makeshift "table" made of 3 cardboard boxes stacked atop one another), and bedroom decor for the sake of space.  I only brought summer things, plus a few sweaters for "cool summer nights."   Yeah..those don't exist here.

I'm desperately craving a scarf, a leather jacket, boots and jeans.  So in my thirst for cool and crisp autumn weather I thought I would post some of my favorite layered streetstyle looks from the last few seasons...

Love this gals' short sleeved jacket with her sleeves being just the right pop of color, the cozy scarf and booties are also amazing!

I am totally smitten with this look, the mid-length leather skirt is a dream of mine for the season (there's a BEAUTIFUL black one at Anthropologie right now...but that's A LOT of paychecks away from reality...

I'm feeling super inspired, and I'm at least craving a try on with my fall clothes, just for the fun of mixing and matching things, re-purposing clothes from last year by wearing them different ways etc...!  I'm especially excited about wearing mid-length skirts this fall and winter with boots and tights.
